June Wildlife and Gardens: Perfect Time for a Yorkshire Summer Getaway | Red House Holiday Lets

Ever noticed how everything feels more alive in June?

The Yorkshire countryside bursts into a riot of colour this month, transforming our 70-acre estate into a wildlife paradise. With longer days and warmer temperatures, June offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure for families, couples and groups looking to reconnect with nature.

And the best part? Our heated outdoor swimming pool is now open for the season!

Wildlife Wakes Up at Red House

Morning walks at Red House Estate have become magical recently.

Deer graze peacefully in the surrounding fields, while otters occasionally make an appearance along the River Ouse that borders our property. Our guests have been spotting hedgehogs in the evenings too - these delightful creatures are thriving in our wildlife-friendly gardens.

Bird enthusiasts, bring your binoculars! The dawn chorus reaches its peak in early June, with woodland birds in full voice from around 4:30am. Not an early riser? Don't worry - our resident birds continue their melodious songs throughout the day.

Gardens in Their Glory

June transforms our estate gardens into something truly special.

The wildflower meadows are now dotted with vibrant colours - look out for the bright yellow lesser celandine, delicate wood anemones and the poppies are just days away from blooming.

Our guests love wandering through the private gardens, which are now filled with pollinator-friendly flowers attracting butterflies and bees. The secure gardens of each cottage are perfect for both children and pets to explore safely while you relax with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine.

Perfect Timing for Pool Days

There's nothing quite like a refreshing dip after a day of exploration.

Our heated outdoor swimming pool is now open for the season, offering the perfect way to cool off on warmer days. Families particularly love this feature - children can splash about while adults relax, taking in the peaceful countryside views.

After your swim, why not challenge your family to a friendly match on our grass tennis court or try your hand at croquet on the lawn? These traditional English summer pastimes are available to all our guests throughout your stay.

Local Adventures Await

While our estate offers plenty to keep you entertained, June is also the perfect time to explore what Yorkshire has to offer.

Just 8 miles away, York is hosting several exciting events this month. The Great Knaresborough Bed Race takes place on June 14th - a unique and entertaining spectacle where teams race through the town before swimming across the River Nidd!

Nature lovers should mark their calendars for the Yorkshire Puffin Festival on June 7th and 8th at Flamborough Headland. It's one of the best places in the country to see these charismatic birds from land.

For garden enthusiasts, the North Yorkshire Open Studios event runs on June 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th, allowing you to visit artists' studios set in some of Yorkshire's most beautiful gardens.

Why Families Keep Coming Back

Some guests choose to come back in early June for their stay - the perfect sweet spot before the peak summer crowds but with all the benefits of summer weather and activities.

With our four beautifully equipped cottages - Prince Rupert (sleeps 12), Garden House (sleeps 8), Signal Cottage (sleeps 4) and Vavasour Cottage (sleeps 4) - we can accommodate groups of all sizes. Each cottage offers its own private garden secure for children and pets, modern comforts and access to all the estate amenities.

Book Your June Getaway

There is still availability in June for last-minute bookings.

Whether you're planning a family holiday, a romantic getaway, or a gathering with friends, our historic estate offers the perfect blend of seclusion and accessibility - just 2 miles from the A59 yet reached by a private 2-mile lane ensuring complete privacy.
